Ellyse Perry 44 not out

Ellyse Perry proved her place as one of the premier batswomen in women’s cricket with an unbeaten 71 off 62 balls to lead Royal Challengers Bangalore to a seven-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians in their WPL match at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Australia captain Perry was an unflappable figure throughout their early struggles after Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine had both been dismissed cheaply from Royal Challengers Bangalore’s side.

RCB dropped to 88-4 in their pursuit of 197 but always looked in control thanks to Perry and Richa Ghosh who combined for four boundaries off just 37 balls with Perry at the crease and an outstanding run-out from Molineux as part of an unbeaten partnership of 89 off just 37 deliveries – one highlight being a run out by Molineux!

Healy was facing pressure to bring her team closer to their target in three overs, so finding a boundary off Wareham looked like it could do just that – until DRS revealed that the ball had actually spun the opposite direction before hitting stumps! Incredulous at what had transpired before being overturned completely leaving Healy in complete shock.

After an initially slow start, Perry began to gain momentum when she hit successive maximums off Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Deepti Sharma for successive maximums, before smashing Georgia Wareham for six through the off side. She eventually reached fifty off 75 balls.

Early on, RCB’s openers had endured an inauspicious start with both Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav falling quickly before rebounding thanks to Perry’s superb innings and Ishan Kishan’s consecutive fifties. However, their game quickly turned around with both players scoring fifty runs before Perry went on his innings of his own to reach 50 himself!

MI made light work of their target, thanks to excellent bowling performances by Pooja Vastrakar (2/14) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (2/27). Amelia Kerr earned Player of the Match honors with an unbeaten 40 not out – an accomplishment which kept RCB under 140 for 6.

Pooja Vastrakar 2/14

Indian Women responded strongly after their dismal performance against Pakistan in their inaugural Women’s World Cup game with an outstanding display against Korea in their second match at this competition. Pooja Vastrakar led with two wickets in four overs bowled by her, assisted by Renuka Thakur who also took two scalps.

After being requested to field first, Mumbai Indians’ bowlers proved impressive by restricting Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to just 131 for six in 20 overs. Ellyse Perry proved an exception for them by scoring 44 off 38 balls but their top order didn’t fare as well.

India’s Opening Performance

India Women’s openers looked to make an early impression by scoring quickly, and Harmanpreet Kaur certainly delivered with five fours off legspinner Tuba Hassan to progress from 23 off 20 to 43 off 26 off 26 deliveries before she was dismissed by Syed Aroob Shah in the 10th over.

India’s middle order responded well and began taking wickets regularly, led by Vastrakar’s two wickets in four overs. She first got one off Rabeya Ahmed when she attempted to play it square on the off-side but ended up getting an edge caught by Jemimah Rodrigues at cover.

Vastrakar bowled another short ball to Muneeba Ali, who attempted to pull but miscued her attempted shot. Shafali Verma quickly ran ahead to catch it for Vastrakar’s 57th wicket in T20I cricket and moved up the list, surpassing Jhulan Goswami as she rose through the ranks.

Nat Sciver-Brunt 2/27

Mumbai Indians beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru with bowlers taking centre stage as batsmen supported them well for an emphatic victory.

Ellyse Perry led Royal Challengers Bangalore’s disappointing batting effort by scoring 44; Georgia Wareham joined her with 27 – but other RCB batting lineup struggled and were easily dismissed by Mumbai bowling unit.

Nat Sciver-Brunt stood out as the standout bowler, taking two wickets off four overs while remaining economical and striking early on to take out Hollie Armitage and Hannah Martin before getting Heather Graham and Ash Gardner dismissed as their Superchargers lost momentum.

Smriti Mandhan Low Performance

Smriti Mandhan missed her chance at making an impressionful stroke against Issy Wong by mishitting and throwing away her wicket in the second over. Her attempt at hitting hard resulted in an air shot which safely reached Natalie at cover for safekeeping.

England all-rounder Danni Wyatt continued her run-scoring dominance by scoring 60 off 37 balls en route to topping the run scorers’ chart and contributing 27 runs with Katie George to help the Rockets reach 155-7.

Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bat first in order to lay a firm foundation for her opening pair Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews to launch an assault against their target of 164 runs.

Yastika opened with an impressive start, hitting a boundary off her first delivery and Matthews scoring four in her second over. Unfortunately, their opening partnership didn’t last as both were dismissed quickly by offspinner Chamari Athapththu.

Amelia Kerr 40 not out

Mumbai Indians secured victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore thanks to Amelia Kerr’s 40 not out and her outstanding run chase. The right-handed batswoman’s innings was flawless as she never appeared under pressure during her innings; she hit 21 balls for 26 and shared in a 48 run sixth-wicket stand with Kathryn Bryce for 48 runs in six wickets stand. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers struggled to keep up with Amelia Kerr’s pace; spinners struggled even further to have any impactful impact in this matchup.

Toss Win by Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to field first at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, as its surface offered good coverage from grass while remaining dry underneath, providing opportunities for quality seamers to take full advantage.

Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia got off to an encouraging start, scoring 45 runs in six overs before they were dismissed by right-arm spinner Renuka Singh in the third over. Left-arm off-spinner Shreyanka Patil took one wicket per over – she took out Sophie Devine in her first, later dismissing Bharatiya Mittal before striking again by dismissing Ashleigh Gardner in fifth over.

Nonetheless, despite these obstacles, the visitors still managed to put together an impressive total and reached their target with 29 balls remaining.

Karina Gonsalves and Lea Tahuhu Partnership

Karina Gonsalves and Lea Tahuhu put on an explosive 46-run fourth wicket partnership before Kerr struck to reduce their deficit to seven runs in the ninth over. But shortly thereafter Gonsalves was dismissed off straight delivery from Kerr, compounding Gujarat Giants’ task even more severely.

Georgia Wareham was caught off-guard by Kerr’s short ball on leg, caught at deep square leg by Phoebe Litchfield and eventually dismissed for 18. Kerr also took out White Ferns vice-captain Tahlia McGrath before Amanjot Kaur, Pooja Vastrakar and Shabnim Ismail wrapped up the tail quickly with wickets of their own to end proceedings quickly.
