This remarkable performance led them to finish second with 10 out of 14 victories (although controversially replaced as captain by Hardik Pandya). Finally, during an IPL tournament final between two teams who managed 209/5; these teams managed to beat Delhi Daredevils (both won).

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl during their Ipl 2023 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. This marked their inaugural home game of the season; Sunil Narine reached 150 Ipl games while Andre Russell made 100 appearances for their club.

Now, this season has seen Royal Challengers Bangalore strengthen their bowling unit to increase chances of capturing an IPL title.

Mumbai Indians declared their innings closed
When a batting team has established itself as an early front, and knows that spending too much time batting would allow the opposition to force a draw, the captain may declare the innings closed to save the match rather than risk losing wickets. The decision to close usually comes when play has ended but may also be made at any point during play based on tactical considerations of their captain and the situation at hand.

However, in their second qualifier against Lucknow Super Giants, RCB batted first and set an ambitious target of 406. Rohit Sharma was dismissed early for a duck and Rahul Chawla followed suit with six-ball fifty. Suryakumar Yadav did not contribute significantly but Amarnath Vengsarkar and Vishwanath all put on solid partnerships that brought them close to reaching their target score.
Jasprit Bumrah stood out as the star bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), taking four wickets in just his first two overs to reduce Lucknow to 28/4. Ravindra Jadeja then struck back by dismissing Ollie Pope and Johnny Bairstow quickly in quick succession to move England closer towards their modest target. MI have struggled in middle overs, however their lack of urgency never seemed an issue as Lucknow were never under much pressure to chase such an enormous total total.

Maxwell failed to score even one run during either innings, departing for a duck on both. Rohit Sharma replaced Maxwell but did no better – being dismissed after three balls for a three-ball duck himself! Furthermore, Kartik Agarwal also was sent back without scoring even one run!
Agarwal was then moved up the order, whereby Mitchell Starc quickly bowled him. Shashwat Rawat then struck back by taking an excellent wicket to bring down their score to 246-9.
Navdeep Saini and Shivam Dube were sent back into the hut shortly afterwards, followed by Heshwar Padikkal and Gurkeerat Singh Mann who quickly followed suit. Ajaz Ahmad of Delhi pacer was however an exceptional performer for RCB who ended their innings on 282-9.
RCB released many players ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction, yet managed to retain some top players such as Virat Kohli despite this move, such as Du Plessis being unable to revive their fortunes this season. According to reports, their management are looking at reinstating Kohli as captain following Du Plessis’ failed efforts at turning their fortunes around this season.
